Social Meta Tags for Facebook and Twitter

Social Meta Tags allow to optimize content sharing on Facebook and Twitter. They define how titles, descriptions, images etc. appear in these social streams, thus improving your reach by helping content to spread more easily.

Facebook uses Open Graph protocol which enables any web page to become a rich object in a social graph. Twitter uses a custom format called Twitter Cards, but if Twitter robots cannot find any, Twitter uses Open Graph tags instead.

og:type is mainly website or article, sometimes video, book or music.

Twitter Summary card images must be at least 120x120px. Facebook recommends large images i.e. 1200x630px as they offer more flexibility.

Both, Twitter and Facebook provide tools to test if this meta data have been inserted correctly i.e. Facebook Open Graph Object Debugger and Twitter Card Validator.
